It is clear that the economic situation has led companies to rethink the need to invest in training, as they are with plans spending cuts, lower investments and even personal (ironically when to sell more) in order to maintain profit margins or maintain prices by reducing costs. On the other hand, competition becomes more aggressive, and that the reduced demand, the pie gets smaller and I keep my win market share to competition.
Given this framework, the question arises: Who makes a difference in this new market reality? For IS PEOPLE! And those people that makes the difference needs to be better prepared to face new challenges, new skills need to be more productive and companies for their part need to be more creative to keep the motivation to further compromise their employees and put more passion to what is done.
They should also work on the internal climate for business this pressure does not fall in the treatment of employees. Staff needs to be with a positive attitude to make a difference in front of customers and consumers to work together with peers and focus more on achieving business objectives.
By eliminating the training, we are sending a message may not austerity, but of uncertainty and negativity, reinforcing the axiom: the more difficult things are more stupid…. You have to be.
Many companies are unable to develop a comprehensive training plan, but still want to do something, you have to wonder: What I want to achieve from the training?, What’s the point? What is the most critical issue that I want to solve? What kind of training will give me the greatest impact? What kind of need to follow to ensure return on investment? If we can invest a little, which really is investment, not spending?
If you decide to develop training events, you must ensure that the company or consultant to help, knows and understands the situation of your business, that knows the subject, not because you read a book or because you attended a course and it is considered consultant, but also because of knowing the subject has practical experience and will provide application tools in your business and it will give adequate monitoring to help achieve the objectives with the training.
One of the critical areas is to keep the sales skills: how to sell in times of crisis, how to achieve synergy between vendors, how to prospect more and better clients, how to prepare better before visiting a client. But sales are not only refers to sales, we should make everyone in the company to become vendors, we’re not going to lose a customer for a bad debt collection or because the product was shipped on time, or because someone finance forgot to do the billing or seller simply said “Come back tomorrow that I have no time right now.”
Before thinking about removing the training, think better on what they really need their employees to be more productive, to form more effective teams, to be more committed to their organization, to provide more and better results, to produce more with fewer resources. Once you identify what you need, make sure that anyone who offers to give it a person or company that knows what he does, who has experience in this field, which can give the necessary follow that what is learned to apply to your company. If you find that company, do not be afraid to invest in the development of its employees to be better prepared and confident that worth working for his company, which is worth giving extra effort, we must work together to confront the crisis, that organizational culture is that we build.
